21 – 22 JUNE 2023, ALGIERS – ALGERIA
Welcome to the 4th International Seminar in Engineering, Health and Analysis: Pharmaceutical Process – SEHA -2023
The pharmaceutical sector is directly impacted by research. The drugs being developed based on discoveries from fundamental or applied sciences research. By the use of more efficient manufacturing methods, the pharmaceutical landscape has experienced a major upheaval. These researches have substantially aided drug development, allowing the process to become more precise.
Pharmaceutical process team (LPDT) from the Faculty of Mechanical and Process engineering, USTHB, organize the 4th International Seminar in Engineering, Health and Analysis: Pharmaceutical Process in Algiers, Algeria on 21st and 22 June, 2023.
For this fourth edition, the seminar is placed under the slogan: Pharmaceutical engineering, the heart of health product development. Its ambition is to present the best research works in the field of pharmaceutical engineering assisting in the development of health products.
This event has been initiated to facilitate beneficial exchanges between all parties involved in the field of pharmaceutical technology and to provide an excellent opportunity for the development and deepening of scientific cooperation among academics, practitioners, and business professionals.
Such occasion can create an additional possibility for attendees to discuss their results, the new developments and the future directions. The conference day could also promote scientific exchanges for talented young researchers in pharmaceutical departments of different universities and academic workplaces throughout the country.

7َAmong our Speakers :
Université de Genève
Eric Allémann was born in 1963. He studied pharmacy at the University of Geneva. From 1990 to 1993, he worked on his thesis in the field of parenteral polymeric drug delivery systems with extended release properties. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1993. He went then to the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Sherbrooke (Quebec) for a post-doc. In 1995, he became research associate and lecturer at the University of Geneva. In 1997, the Swiss Confederation for the renewal of academic positions appointed him. He obtained in October 1999 a position of “maître d'enseignement et de recherche”. Since October 2001, he joined the Geneva research center of the pharmaceutical company Bracco Group, as senior research scientist. He was involved in therapeutic and diagnostic nanomedicines. In 2004, he was appointed Manager and was heading the Department of Novel Agents Research at Bracco Research Geneva. In 2009 he became full professor of Pharmaceutical technology at the Geneva-Lausanne School of Pharmacy (EPGL), located at the University of Geneva. Since July 2018, he was elected President of the School of pharmaceutical sciences. Eric Allémann's research interests are focused on the delivery of active substances by means of supramolecular constructs, nano- and microparticles for the controlled release and drug targeting as well as for contrast agents for various medical imaging techniques.
He is (co)-inventor for 15 international patents and has authored and co-authored more than 100 research and review articles.
Additionally to his academic duties, Eric is co-founder of KYLYS a start-up company developing biopolymers
University of Navarra
Juan M. IRACHE is Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Navarra. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Galenics in the University of Paris South (1992-1993) and Associate Professor (Maître de Conférences Universitaire) at the University of Rouen in France (1993-1996). His research is focused on the design and evaluation of nanocarriers (e.g., polymer nanoparticles, SNEDDS, protein nanodevices) for (i) the delivery of drugs, actives and biomacromolecules through biological barriers, and (ii) the development of new mucosal adjuvants for vaccination and immunotherapy.
Université de Sherbrooke - Canada
Dr. Nicolas Abatzoglou is Professor and ex-Head of the Department of Chemical & Biotechnological Engineering of the Université de Sherbrooke. He is Adjunct Professor at the University of Saskatchewan and Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering.
He is a specialist in Process Engineering involving particulate systems in reactive and non-reactive environments. He is the Director of the GRTP (Group of Research on Technologies and Processes). The GRTP operates a brand-new R&D and Scale-up facility at the Université de Sherbrooke and is financed by both Canadian & Quebec institutional funding and industrial partners such as Rio Tinto, KWI and Soleno.
From May 2008 to March 2021, he has been the holder of the Pfizer Industrial Research Chair in Pharmaceutical Processes. The highly successful output of this Chair led to a continuation of this association, which is now focusing on Process intensification, Analytical Technologies development and industrial applications.
He has numerous collaborations and projects at national and international level and he served as one of the Leaders in Canada’s NCE Network BioFuelNet on Biorefining. He is presently the Leader of the Canadian side of the project GOLD funded by HORIZON 2020 and comprising 18 partners from EU, China and Canada.
He is co-founder of the company Enerkem Technologies, precursor of Enerkem, a spin-off commercializing technologies in the field of energy from renewable resources.
He has received many academic and professional awards and he is a world-renowned researcher and technology transfer expert. His scientific production includes 200+ publications, reviews, conferences, keynotes, plenaries and invited lectures, patents and three book chapters.
